Nancy C Hanwell

Nancy C. Hanwell, 91, of Medina passed away peacefully at Reserve Care Hospice Center of Medina on October 12, 2026, after days of visits with family supporting and loving her. Nancy was born on December 16, 1934, in Marstellar, Pennsylvania, to James and Margaret (nee Templeton) Taylor. She was married to the late Robert (Bob) Hanwell for 67 years until his passing February 13, 2021.

Nancy and her husband Bob were very involved in the Brunswick community. They were one of the founding families for the Brunswick Reformed Church that originally met at Grafton Road (Kidder) Elementary school until the first Church Sanctuary was built in 1961. They were active in the church their whole lives with Nancy helping with greeting parishioners, Sunday School, vacation bible school, church picnics, and other events at the church. Nancy and Bob were also instrumental in starting the Brunswick Youth Baseball League and opening the first fields in Brunswick. After retirement they worked weekly at the Brunswick Food Pantry. And after building their retirement home in Medina they worked weekly at the Medina Community Center. Nancy enjoyed cooking, canning and helping family and neighbors whenever opportunities presented themselves. She also enjoyed floral arranging, crafts, sewing and helping others learn these crafts.

Nancy stayed home and was a devoted mother to her children Bob, Dennis and Kim until they were all attending school. She worked part-time, clerking in a Brunswick law office and later worked at Medina High School in the audio-visual department providing equipment and support to the teachers and staff. She continued to attend lunch and socials with her former school staff members after her retirement.

Nancy leaves behind her sister, Elaine (Carl) Cobbs; her loving children: son, Dennis (Chris) Hanwell of Medina; daughter, Kim (Jim) Welsh of Columbia Station; loving grandsons, Jimmy (Katie) Welsh of Columbia Station, Jon (Kristy) Hanwell of Medina, and Jeff (Katie) Welsh of Lancaster; loving granddaughters, Jamie (Kyle) Taylor of Brunswick, Jen (Rob) Carr of Brunswick, and Nicole (Sean) Baisden of Medina; and 9 beloved great grandchildren, Robbie Welsh, Joey Welsh, Maddie Baisden, Callie Carr, Tommy Welsh, James Welsh, Aiden Baisden, Dottie Welsh and Evi Carr.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Taylor; her husband of 67 years, Robert (Bob) J. Hanwell; son, Robert M. Hanwell; infant son, David J. Hanwell; her brothers, Ronald and Richard Taylor; and sister, Margaret Gerrick.

Bollinger Funeral Goods and Services in Brunswick are handling the arrangements.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brunswick Reformed Church, 3535 Grafton Road, Brunswick, Ohio, 44212 on November 21, 2026. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am, with the service starting at 11:00 am, and a luncheon to follow at the church.

The family appreciates and thanks Medina Pointe of Medina, Avenues of Medina, Medina Hospital and Reserve Care Hospice Center of Medina for their care and help with Nancy over the past five years. The family further appreciates the Brunswick Reformed Church members and staff, and many friends and neighbors who visited, assisted and loved Nancy over these past years. She was truly loved!
