Maxcine Electa (Detwiler) Markley passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025 at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 20, 1933, in Chippewa Lake, Ohio, to Elmer and Ethel Detwiler. One of six children, she shared a special bond with her twin sister, Marcine. Maxcine graduated from Seville High School and in February 1954 married Donald “Don” Markley. Over the years, she worked for Westfield Insurance, helped in her parents’ restaurant and cheese store, Alpine Alpa, in Orrville, and later spent 20 years in customer service with Columbia Gas in Medina. Outside of work, Maxcine enjoyed music, playing the piano for many years. She also had a love for interior design, gardening, and flowers — always bringing beauty and creativity into her home and the lives of those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her granddaughter, Beth Speidel; her siblings, Mildred, Pauline, Merle, Thelma; and her twin sister, Marcine.
Maxcine is survived by her daughters, Connie (Jeff) Speidel and Valerie (Doug) Miller; grandchildren, Brittany (Nick) Balmat, Eric (Nichole) Speidel, Ryan (Crystal) Speidel, Jayme (Jeff) McDonald, and Brandon (Kristen) Metzler; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Her family will remember her for her warmth, creativity, and devotion to those she loved. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date to honor and celebrate Maxcine’s life.
