Listen to Obituary

Matthew R. Napholz, 32 of Medina, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025 following a courageous lifelong battle with various health issues. He was born with Alagille Syndrome – a rare, multisystem disease that largely affects the liver . At just 23 months old, he underwent a liver transplant. Over the years he faced more challenges than most people will in a lifetime. He had kidney failure at age 19 and even though he received a kidney from his mother in 2012, it eventually failed and he spent months upon months on dialysis. He eventually succumbed to his many illnesses. Known to his friends as Matt or Nipss or 2X (a tribute to his 2 transplants), Matthew was a kind, resilient, loving warrior who never stopped fighting. Through it all, he never complained or felt sorry for himself. He had a heart of gold and was truly one of a kind.

Matt enjoyed fishing, 4 wheeling, camping, spending time in the outdoors, shooting pool, sports, and watching UFC fights. He was a good chef who spent time watching cooking shows, and collecting shoes, hats, and vintage memorabilia. He found friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Anthony and Dawn Napholz; sisters, Ashley Napholz (James De Mell), Kristen Napholz (Jack Wonkovich), and Taylor Napholz (Michael Meekins); nieces and nephews – Treyton, Mila, King, Jasmine, Kolson, Jayla, Owen, Jordan, and Summer; along with his dog, Louie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Virginia Fuller, and Paul and Barbara Napholz.

A church service and celebration of his life will be held and announced in the future.
