Elizabeth “Betty” Funk of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on August 15, 1937, to Mary and Samuel Abel in Parma, Ohio.
In 1957, she married the love of her life, Ronald “Ron” M. Funk, and together they shared 59 wonderful years before his passing in 2016. Betty and Ron treasured time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their many adventures included camping trips, 4-H (especially the equestrian club), wrestling tournaments, gymnastics tournaments, trips to Disney World, visits to the yearly fair, and simply being together at home on the farm with all their animals, living a good life.
Betty and Ron were deeply committed to their sons’ involvement in wrestling. They helped start the Medina County Wrestling Club, and they opened their home and community to exchange teams from Korea and Germany.
Beyond her devotion to family, Betty had many interests and talents throughout her life. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked as a real estate agent. When that chapter came to a close, she and Ron ran a furniture store, later expanding the business to include Amish furniture and carpeting to help customers create beautifully decorated rooms. Guided by their strong Christian faith, they also added a Christian bookstore inside the furniture store. In later years, they began a cleaning business known as King George Management.
Betty shared many life lessons with her family over the years, some through her words and many through her actions. She was a devout Catholic with a deep love of music, and she sang in and led the music group at church. Her desire for all her children and grandchildren to be grounded in Christ’s Word remained at the forefront of her mind, even in her final days. Her faith was central to her life and sustained her through life’s many ups and downs, all the way to the end of her earthly journey, as she passed peacefully in God’s arms.
She is survived by her three children, Chris, Colin (Tina), and Michelle (Jeff) Warren; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Stefanie, Zachary, Kendall, Avery, Keny, and Cody; and seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Liam, Colton, Aurora, Francis, Graham, and Weston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald M. Funk; her parents, Mary and Samuel Abel; her sister, Joan Abel Furniss; and her granddaughter, Tanya Lilly.
