David Caperton was born in 1945 in Medina Hospital. He grew up spending time at the family farm in Lodi and the family Homestead in West Virginia. At 18, he joined the Navy and served proudly on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam war. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; parents, Robert and Elvetta Caperton, his sisters, Lois, Dorothy and Shirley and his brother Homer.
David was proud of his three boys, Robert (Kyle), David and Douglas, his daughter Shannon, his grandchildren Duncan Harney and Riley Harney, plus he recently became a great grandfather to Mikey Harney.
David was well known for his sense of humor, and dedication to his calling. His proudest achievements came after retirement when he worked as a peer support recovery counselor, at Alternative paths and Stella Maris. After he retired for a second time David was dedicated to helping others find recovery and he continued that work right up until his final days. He was grateful to have lived to see his 49th anniversary of sobriety. He was also a distinguished mentor and friend.
In addition to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, he is survived by his brother Charles Caperton of Burgaw, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
He was deeply loving and deeply loved.
Interment will take place along with his wife at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273, on Monday, October 12th, 2026, at 11:15 am., with Military Honors. A Celebration of Life lunch will follow at 12:30 pm at 125 N. Elmwood Ave, Medina, OH 44256.
